Moving during the Holidays

In two days the movers will be coming to our house to start what will become "6 days of packing extravaganza!" There is still so much that needs to be done.  You would think that this being our 4th move as an Army family we would be used to the "pick up and go" but this time it seems to be very different.  Not only are we moving overseas but we are also going to be separated for several months before we all arrive in Germany together.  So this just means attempting to pack the kids and Sasha with what they will need for the months to come until school lets out for the school year, packing what Danny will need along with all the other household goods...not to mention trying to decide what will stay in storage.
There’s one thing to be said about moving during the holidays, it sucks!! Attempting to create/maintain holiday traditions such as Elf on the Shelf a cute little story about Santa’s little elf helper who flies to the North Pole every night to report back to Santa what he sees while sitting in various places in the house.  St. Nick's Day which ironically is a German tradition where on the 6th of December the children put out their shoes for St. Nick to fill with candies and goodies if they have been good or switches and coal if they were naughty.  All this, along with getting the Christmas shopping complete, sorting, packing and cleaning the house.  We miss having a festive looking house and baking cookies, but we will have to wait until next year to decorate and put up our tree.  Until then we will have to make due with driving around the neighborhood admiring everyone else’s lights.
